Patience and Prudence McIntyre[1] were born in and , respectively, in Los Angeles, California.
Their father Mark McIntyre was an orchestra leader, pianist, and songwriter who worked with Frank Sinatra in the s.[2] Patience was named after a woman who authored poetry for The Ladies’ Home Journal in the s, and her younger sister Prudence’s name was selected as one that fit with her older sister's.
As youngsters, the girls studied piano and learned to read music. In the summer of , their father brought year-old Prudence and year-old Patience[3] into the Liberty Recordsstudio in Los Angeles.
